Meet Tara

SOMATIC BODYWORKER, COMMUNICATION THERAPIST AND BREATHWORK FACILITATOR

Tara Lynn Carlson is a somatic bodyworker, communication therapist, and breathwork facilitator in Spokane, WA. She is also a wife, a dog mom, a traveler, a yogi, and a writer. Tara is known for her obsession with dogs (especially the adopted and weirdest ones), her daily devotion to personal growth, and her compassionate nature.

Tara owns Movement Medicine, PLLC, where she works with adults to integrate primitive reflexes that help keep us safe from harm using Masgutova’s Neurosensorimotor Reflex Integration (MNRI).

MNRI is a form of manual bodywork that frees up brain space by teaching the body to emotionally regulate utilizing our primitive/protective, thus subconscious, neural pathways instead of our conscious ones.

Tara holds a master’s degree in speech and hearing sciences and has more than 15 years of 1:1 experience working as a practitioner and/or caregiver to children of all ages with special needs. During her time as a speech language pathologist, she devoted most of her extra time to healing her chronic anxiety and gut issues through holistic and alternative means (which she has done successfully, thanks to giving herself the power back... PLUS feeling empowered to find a team of awesome practitioners).

She also has 3 years of experience using MNRI as her primary modality to help children with communication, feeding, and sensory processing deficits.

She is most passionate about making these forms of healing more accessible and thus, more of a priority in our daily lives. Using communication and coaching methods she learned through her years of experience collaborating with parents, teachers and other practitioners,

Tara empowers her clients by giving home exercises and mantras that remind the body: “Thank you for doing what you were supposed to do to protect me. And now you can rest.” When Tara isn’t diving deeper into her devotional practice and guiding you through meditations, you can find her sliding down a mountain, eagle-watching, or drinking an oat milk dirty chai while writing poetry.

  • A session with Tara begins with a brief assessment of where you are at that day- emotionally, physically and spiritually. She may or may not assess your reflexes beforehand depending on your personal goals; the goal of MNRI is to remind your body what calm truly feels like- and to then learn what movements and reflexes are hindering you from feeling this calm more often in your day-day. Through channeling and observing your body's reactions to specific input and movements, you will be guided on a somatic journey that releases fear, anxiety and worry, thus creating more joy and peace throughout your entire system.

  • I know the benefits of having someone with just a little bit of science beyond the common knowledge and how it can create pathways in our bodies at a much higher and faster rate. It can be challenging to trust ourselves when we are in low spots in our lives; I want to help people begin to build their own agency by showing more gratitude for our bodies. I know how significant MNRI has altered the course of my life and I trust that this modality can be a key for so many people wanting to deepen their connections to their bodies and thus, their nervous systems.
